De Revolutionair-Socialistische Arbeiderspartij ontstond in 1935, na een fusie tussen anti-stalinistische communisten afkomstig uit de Communistische Partij Nederland en de marxistische Onafhankelijke Socialistische Partij, destijds de grootste partij links van de Sociaal-Democratische Arbeiderspartij. De partijleider van de RSAP was Henk Sneevliet, wereldwijd de meest beroemde Nederlandse socialist die zich inzette voor de werkende klasse van Rotterdam tot Indonesië en Beijing.
